Public Works

The City of Walterboro's Public Works and Sanitation departments provide several services directly to the community. They are responsible for solid waste collection, facility maintenance, and infrastructure repair.

Walterboro is one of only a few cities still providing twice-a-week garbage and weekly yard trash collection. The automated collection system makes this possible. Your Public Works employees have been able to stay on schedule even following damaging storms or high-volume events 99% of the time.

Most of the streets and sidewalks in Walterboro are owned and maintained by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). However, your Public Works employees repair potholes (not on private property), clean catch basins, and perform numerous other tasks to facilitate the flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Public Works employees also maintain the gravity lines in our sewer system. Blockages should be reported to (843) 782-1000 ext "0" during normal hours and (843) 782-1030 after hours.
